Your Mysore to Palakkad road trip would take around 5.5 hours via NH948 and NH544. The traffic is usually smooth and fast as the National Highways are well maintained.

Along the route, you can visit the popular tourist attractions of the region such as the ancient Sri Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple at Nanjangud, the picturesque Kailasakona Waterfalls in Annur, and Ranjankudi Fort in Vadakkalur. Starting the road trip early in the morning is advisable as you have to pass through forest areas and you may come across animals that might have strayed on the road by mistake.
