Melkote is a historic hill town in the Mandya district of Karnataka. The quaint hamlet is also known as Thirunarayanapuram and is home to ancient temples. Built on the rocky hills of Yadugiri, Yadavagiri, and Yadushailadeepa, it overlooks the Cauvery valley. Melkote, a popular tourist destination in Karnataka is also a pilgrimage of Shri Vaishnava Brahmins as the great Vaishnava saint Sri Ramanujacharya resided here in the 12th century AD. 1. Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple

The ancient temple is also known as Thirunarayanapura. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the 12th-century temple is renowned for its excellent architecture and carved gateway. Crowns known as Vairamudi or Vajramukuta and Krishnaraja-mudi were offered to the deity by the King of Mysore Raja Wodeyar. These gold crowns still decorate the Utsava Murthy during the annual yatra held in March-April.

2. Danushkodi

An abandoned village located at the confluence of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. You can observe a unique phenomenon of abundant sweet and drinkable water even along the shoreline. You can also offer prayers at the Kulasekhara Alwar shrine.

3. Melkote Yoga Narasimha Temple

A prime Hindu pilgrimage, Yoga Narasimha Temple is one of the seven holy centers devoted to the worship of Lord Narasimha. Built by the Hoysala kingdom, the temple houses a huge pond called Kalyani down the hill. You can also view the beauty of the steps leading to the water and the mandapas.

4. Shri Krishna Temple
